Netflix's Bling Empire web series gives the audience a peek into the lives of the uber-rich Asian and Asian-American community living in the city of Los Angeles. Bling Empire showcases their extravagant and lavish lifestyles - bling parties, shopping sprees, rich people drama and so much more!
Bling Empire is the first of its kind. Most content about Asian-American immigrants in America shows the community seeking refuge from poverty. This show offers another side of the immigrant experience. An experience marked by wealth. The already super rich cast has moved to LA to grow their fortunes! Bling Empire is definitely a guilty pleasure show. Once you start watching, you just can't stop. The show lures you in with bling, but makes you stay with the content. It's not just another “shallow, no content” reality show based on the rich and famous. The show has great character arcs, a commentary on toxic relationships and not to mention a very good looking cast! Bling Empire also has an intra-generational cast which is not that commonly seen in such reality shows.
Like most reality shows about the uber-rich, Bling Empire also suffers from sensory overload. All that wealth and the drama that comes with it can be a little off-putting. Other than that the show is BINGE worthy!
From one of the biggest DJs in East Asia to the daughter of a tech billionaire pursuing a career in fashion to the actor who played the Red Ranger on Power Rangers Megaforce, the show has it all. They're not just stupidly wealthy. They offer a sense of real character, struggles and much more. With the wrong cast, it would look like a show about "rich people complaining about being rich." Bling Empire has managed to steer past this casting issue. The cast is quite aware of their wealth. The show offers them up as character studies to show how money can shape people.
Bling Empire is very satisfying. Satisfying in the sense of how a reality show should be. There is no over-dramatized nonsense, clearly forced or invented drama. The drama and conflict seem somehow natural. If you want to watch a bunch of rich people judge each other and buy expensive diamonds every other day; but also want to watch a commentary on the lives of the rich - Bling Empire is the perfect show for you!
