Netflix's Lupin Web Series is a simple and stylish French show about heisting that tackles racism and classism.

Lupin Web Series Storyline:

Netflix's recent show Lupin web series is the perfect opening show for this new year. A French action-drama show, starring Omar Sy, is greatly inspired by the legendary fictional character called Arsene Lupin, who's known as a thief and a master of disguise in the early French valleys. The stories of Arsene Lupin were created by Maurice Leblanc that later on went on to inspire most of the literary work and media forms. The show which is based on similar lines has this man called Assane Diop who is hugely inspired by Arsene Lupin, and just like him he also steals only from the rich and wealthy.

Before he became a con man, Assane is a simple man who's father, Babakar, died after being accused of a crime he didn't commit. Anguished by the events with his father, he pursues a path of avenge and takes his inspiration from a book about Arsene Lupin which is magically gifted to him by someone who wants to help him. And here begins his story of conning the wealthy in the town of Paris.

Lupin Web Series Episodes:

The first part of the series is divided into five chapters of fifty minutes each. The second part of the show is yet to be announced.

Lupin Web Series Review:

All the heist scenes in the show are shown strikingly. For instance, the first scene where Assane Diop is shown stealing a diamond from Marie Antoinette has a great impact as a viewer. Apart from this, the casting of Omar Sy for this role is perfect as his tall and dark personality has a charismatic charm whenever he embarks on his next mission to steal. The idea of casting a black man is also well thought of from the point of view of tackling racism. How the black men are perceived as thieves, and how a white policeman who also accused Diop's father, decodes all the robberies but despite that, is shown helpless when his colleagues make fun of him.

There are emotional flashbacks that build a sharp undercurrent and attach us with the grief and the drive behind the protagonist's motive. Having said that, some of the scenes also went a bit overboard with emotions which I feel wasn't required. Talking about the performances, Omar Sy did complete justice to his role as a loving dad, doting son, and of course, an unpredictable con man. The role of Claire is also well performed by Ludivine Sagnier who's also shown insecure all the time about her relationship. Other actors have also done a fair job in their performances.

Lupin Web Series Verdict:

Overall, Lupin is one of the best shows to watch and begin the year with. It has drama, rush, suspense, emotions, and everything that will keep all on the edge of their seats. Also, the beautiful locations of Paris are something to mesmerize throughout the show. So even if nothing's going on, the backdrop keeps one engrossed.
