The Greater Chennai corporation on tuesday pulls down the unauthorised four storey building at Vadapalani where four of a family died in a fire in may 2017.The move came a day before corporation commissioner D Karthikeyan was to appear before the Madras high court to explain why no steps were taken to raze the unauthorised building. On Wednesday, the corporation sought time till Thursday for the commissioner to appear before the court. The court adjouurned the matter to Thursday.
The work was being carried out under police protection and after cordoning off the area. In May 2017, two women and two children died in a fire in the building. They said the fire came from an electrical junction box in the parking lot.
