Kerala Ground Report: Church Turns Into relief Camp As Rain Landslide Wreak Havoc In Kakkayam Hills
Heavy rains continue to lash Kerala for the past three days. The Indian Meteorological Department issued a red alert for six districts of Kerala on Sunday saying that they will receive over 20 cm rainfall over Monday. There is likely to be a reduction in rainfall from Tuesday, they said. The death toll in the massive landslide that occurred in the Idukki district on Friday continues to rise. A landslide in the hills of Kakkayam in Kerala's Kozhikode forced several people to seek refuge at a local church that has now emerged as a relief camp. The landslide took a portion of the road along with it and the only way up or down the hill area is on foot. In addition, portions of several homes in the area were also washed away by the landslide.
