Director Vinayan's Malayalam movie Chalakkudikkaran Changathi featuring Rajamani and Honey Rose in the lead roles, has received positive reviews and ratings from the film critics. Chalakudikkaran Changathi is Vinayan's heartfelt tribute to Kalabhavan Mani, an artiste and human being he loved and admired. The movie shows how Kalabhavan Mani became one of the major actors in South India, fighting poverty, discrimination in the movie industry based on his caste and colour, and finally his mystifying death which shocked the whole State. Rajamani, who has played Kalabhavan Mani, has delivered a brilliant performance, which is the highlight of Chalakkudikkaran Changathi. Rajamani's craft is evident from the very first frame he appears in. And he consistently stays in character for the length of the film. The supporting cast members including Salim Kumar, Honey Rose, Joju George, Dharmajan, Vishnu Govind, Ramesh Pisharody, Kottayam Nazeer, Joy Mathew and S.P. Sreekumar have done their roles well. Vinayan has also highlighted some issues that kept him away from the industry. The director has also taken a dig at some actors and technicians. Abhilash Viswanath's editing, Bijibal's songs and background score are the attractions on the technical front.
Overall, it is a tear-jerker that pays homage to a man who was one of the finest actors in South India.
