The movie starts off with Dev’s friend narrating his journey to all the students at a college function. What is his journey and will he be successful in his love forms the rest of the story
Karthi looks very handsome in Dev and this is a cakewalk role for him and he is at his effortless best. He is improving with his dances with each passing film. His costumes are good too. Rakul Preet Singh has shed kilos and she looks pale and unexciting and it’s clearly evident on screen. Her characterization does not help her role either. Both the actors who played Karthi’s friends roles were good. Prakash Raj and Ramya Krishna have a small role to play and they did their part well while dubbing was very odd for Prakash Raj.
Music by Harris Jayaraj is a major let down while his BGM is good. Cinematography by R Velraj is top notch and he has showcased the whole movie brightly. Editing is mediocre as the runtime is very long and few portions could have easily been trimmed. Production values are Grand. Dubbing, on the whole, is Good.
Dialogues are OK.
Director Rajath Ravi Shankar starts off the movie beautifully by introducing all the characters but slowly loses steam after a point. There was freshness definitely in few scenes and in his narration but he could not carry it on the whole as the film lacks magic and a proper storyline. Karthi gives an honest performance and looks good too but both Rakul Preet and her characterization lack soul.
Rakul Preet characterization
On the whole, Dev tries to be a roller coaster tale of emotions but ends up being a tiresome love story. Yes, there is freshness in a few scenes but disappoints on the whole. Lack of commercial elements too doesn’t help this film either and will end up as one more flop in Karthi's career here says our review on Dev
