Rating : 3/5
Petta Tamil Movie Tagline:
Rajinikanth and Karthik Subbaraj has a winner in hands.
Petta Tamil Movie Story:
Superstar Rajinikanth started working with young filmmakers a couple of years ago. And when he teamed up with Karthik Subbaraj, fans couldn’t keep calm. Their film Petta released today amid much fanfare.
Rajinikanth plays Kaali, a hostel warden in Dehradun. There is a reason why Kaali works in North India. He has a mysterious past which finds its way to haunt him. The proceedings put him opposite a politician and his son.
Petta Tamil Movie Performances:
Rajinikanth is extremely suave and reminds of how energetic he was in the 90s. It is quite cool to see Rajinikanth being Uber-stylish and gracing the screen again.
It’s has been a dream for everyone to see Vijay Sethupathi locking horns with Thalaivar. And this is probably the epic face off Tamil cinema can have for several years to come. Vijay Sethupathi is casual in his approach which is major plus point.
One of the show stealers of Petta is Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is making his Tamil debut. Despite not knowing the language, the Hindi actor has aced his role with perfection.
Simran as Rajinikanth’s pair looks younger than ever . It is refreshing to see her looking the same even after several years.
Trish’a screen time is quite less but she does make an impact with her strong performance.
Petta Tamil Movie Positives:
Superstar Rajinikanth has successfully reinvented himself by playing roles of his age in his last couple of films. And his move has certainly paid off as people are still flocking to theatres to see Thalaivar.
What is commendable is that this is not just a Rajinikanth movie where he does larger than life things to keep us entertained. There is solid acting and a meaty role combined with the mass appeal.
The film also has Karthik Subbaraj’s stamp here and there, which gives Petta the much-needed boost.
Also, Karthik Subbaraj needs to be appreciated for not wasting women in his films as a mere eye candy. There are nearly half a dozen actors in Petta, yet the women have been given substantial roles.
Anirudh Ravichander’s songs are foot-tapping especially the Petta Parak and Marana Mass song. His background score is out of the world and enhances many mass sequences.
Tirru’s cinematography needs a special mention and there are plenty of colours on-screen which are fascinating to watch out for.
Petta Tamil Movie Negatives:
The climax of Petta is a little disappointing and slows down the pace of the film heavily. Karthik Subbaraj could have handled the climax in a better manner.
Petta Tamil Movie Verdict:
When a fan-boy turns director for Rajinikanth, there are high chances that he can go wrong. But, Karthik Subbaraj has been extremely careful and has rendered a hit film that is a perfect Pongal gift to his fans.
