Playback Review: Decent thrilling attempt at 'time-travel'
Playback is the new Telugu film that explores the time travel genre which is very rare usually but the director comes up with interesting yet impressive execution.
Young actors Dinesh Tej, Ananya Nagalla, Arjun Kalyan and others acted in the film Playback, which is in theatres from today. Hari Prasad Jakka is the writer and director of the film. Prasad Rao Peddineni is the film's producer. The film's trailer caught the attention of everyone and we can term it as an experiment in Telugu cinema.
Already, we have come across the films revolving around the concept of Time Travel and Time Loop. The cross-time connection films need no introduction to those who regularly follow Hollywood films. But, Playback is one of its kind in Telugu. Telugu cinema never explored a film on the lines of people talking to one another from different timelines.
Playback details the story of a journalist in 2019, a school teacher in 1993 and the connection between them. The school teacher makes a call to the journalist and they start talking. Both are not related to one another and they realize that they are talking from different time lines. The connection that establishes the fact that two persons from different times are talking is the rest of the film's story that includes a lot of twists and turns.
In the current times, it is not easy to take up a science fiction subject and convince the audiences with the same. But, the director has done it. Maintaining proper logics, the director made sure to impress the audiences with his plot. Hari Prasad has given his best for the film and came out with the maximum best possible product in the resources he has. The film is surely a different experience. Since we don't regularly get to watch films like this, it certainly leaves a good impression. Apart rom Aditya 369, we never came across something on the lines of time travel in depth and in detailed. Playback works in this aspect. Blending the science fiction elements well, the director worked on the project and drove it interestingly.
After Mallesham, we get to see Ananya Nagalla in this film. She has played her part very well in the movie. Since it was shot before Mallesham, the traces of her freshness are visible. Her screen presence is good. Dinesh Tej, and Arjun Kalyan have given their best performances. TNR and Journalist Murthy played important parts in the film and proved their talent. The rest of the cast is impressive and made their presence felt. Technically, the film's major asset is the music by Kamran. The cinematography and editing are okay. The detailing in the screenplay is impressive. Usually, it is not easy to deal with a subject like this but the film unit handled it well.
