Sarkar (Telugu) Story

The duo of Vijay and filmmaker AR Murugadoss have a great track record with two blockbuster hits in the form of Thupakki and Kaththi. They have teamed up for the third time for a political thriller titled Sarkar.
Sarkar’s story is the need of the hour. It talks about voter impersonation and how citizens are taken for granted.
Sundar(Vijay) is a successful business person heading an enterprise in the US. He comes to his home city Chennai to cast his vote and finds out that his vote has been cast by someone else illegally.
Sundar is flipped by this and wants to take things in hand. He is motivated to solve the issue practically and gets into politics.

Sarkar (Telugu) Performances

At 40, Vijay looks extremely stylish and his fans are in for a treat throughout the film. The film is replete with mass and class moments and Vijay has performed well in both these sequences.
Keerthy Suresh as Nila has done her job perfectly. Though she doesn’t have an elaborate character to play, she is refreshing to watch on-screen.
Of late, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar has been surprising all of us with her nuanced performance. And Sarkar is no different as she had delivered a near-perfect performance.
Radha Ravi’s portrayal is best to watch on-screen and reminds us why he is one of the most sought-after villains in Kollywood.

Sarkar (Telugu) Positives

Sarkar’s story deals with the important topic of vote impersonation, which is easily relatable to the audience.
Murugadoss has cleverly included several incidents that happened in Tamil Nadu, which makes the film appealing to watch. For example, the jallikattu protest has been included in Sarkar.
The plot of Sarkar is intriguing on paper and the director made it interesting in the second half of the film.
Vijay’s charisma has literally elevated the film to a different level. Sarkar is a dialogue-driven film and Vijay’s experience in acting has come in handy.
There are several mass moments in Sarkar that would impress the audience. Murugadoss has also incorporated his ‘I’m waiting’ catchphrase in a clever way just before the intermission.
Vijay is a huge strength to Sarkar and there’s an aura around him which manages to make people root for him.
The placement of Oru Viral Puratchi song comes across as a pleasant watch.
Stunt choreographers Ram and Lakshman’s work is commendable and Vijay carries it off with much aplomb.

Sarkar (Telugu) Negatives

Keerthy Suresh impressed us with her performance in Mahanati (Nadigaiyar Thilagam in Tamil), but she has heavily underused in the film.
Sarkar’s story is preachy and it is tiring to sit through the first half of the film.
Varalaxmi’s character is uni-dimensional. Even though she has delivered a great performance, her character lacks detailing.
Major drawback of Sarkar is that there are logical loopholes. The believability factor goes for a toss in many places.

Sarkar (Telugu) Verdict

Sarkar is a passable political entertainer which has plenty of mass moments. Look past few illogical scenes. Sarkar will be enjoyable.
