Thiru and Super (Vijay Sethupathi and his real-life son Suriya) are petty thieves living in Tenkasi, Venba (Anjali) is working in a rubber estate in Malaysia and comes to town for a small period. She meets Thiru and falls in love with him. They decided to get married in an airport where Venba promises to return after informing her employer.
However, she gets stuck in a huge mess with the villain's gang. She requests Thiru to come and rescue her from the hassle. How Thiru manages to rescue Venba forms the story of Sindhubaadh.
Vijay Sethupathi is a nuanced performer. He does not have to emote so much to make us feel. He can be casual in his approach and effective as well. It's what he has done in Sindhubaadh.
Anjali is known for her realistic portrayal of characters. Her role as Venba tells the story of small-town girls who go abroad to earn money. She has aced her role and made us feel with her.
Suriya Vijay Sethupathi is brilliant and Thiru's sidekick. They bring in much-needed lightness to the otherwise thrilling story.
Director SU Arun Kumar has taken an interesting concept about skin trade which new in Tamil cinema. He also crafted a screenplay that reveals this gory business with everlasting effect.
Arun has also done a wonderful job in taking real-life characteristics of Vijay Sethupathi and Suriya and incorporating it in their roles in the film. It is pleasing and delightful to watch.
Cinematographer Vijay Kartik Kannan's work is commendable and the colour tones he has used for each country is brilliant to watch on screen.
Yuvan Shankar Raja's music is just perfect for the film. His songs too have that melodic touch.
Arun Kumar's story could have been a thrilling story like Sethupathi. But, he has added too many ingredients which will make you tired towards the end of the film.
If he had omitted many sub-plots, Sindhubaadh would have been a brilliant thriller with skin trade and illegal work contract in foreign countries.
Sindhubaadh's runtime is only 2 hours and 13 minutes. However, it feels too long as the director has packed in multiple storylines. Watch it for the flawless performances of Vijay Sethupathi, Anjali and Suriya.
